ILC turns 8

The Interactive Learning Center (ILC) of the University of the Philippines Los Baños commemorated its eight anniversary last January 26, 2013, since it was formally established and inaugurated at the 3rd floor of the College of Arts and Sciences Annex 1 Building in 2005. It marked its octennial or bronze year with the holding of the 10th Round-Table Discussion on Interactive Learning on January 28, 2013 at the Executive Conference Room, 3rd floor of the UPLB Administration Building.
For the past eight years, the ILC has been producing interactive learning materials such as learning objects and podcasts/vodcasts, among others, which are uploaded in the ILC website for easy access and use of UPLB students, particularly those enrolled in general education/foundation courses. It has also held training- workshops on creating alternative tools for teaching and learning, MOODLE (Modular Object Oriented Dynamic Learning Environment), innovative teaching strategies, scriptwriting, Audacity/GIMP, and Moviemaker to help develop faculty expertise on the production and packaging of interactive learning materials.
The center oversees the management of MOODLE for the e-courses in its own website. It also offers duly-approved ILC services, which includes video/photo documentation of certain university activities and those of external clients, online and offline computer access of students to lecture materials of various general education/foundation courses, and use of its computer laboratories for hands-on computer exercises of different courses, among others.
The ILC enters its ninth year under the stewardship of its third and current director, Dr. Maribel L. Dionisio-Sese, who has put underway the mainstreaming of interactive learning in UPLB through regular roundtable discussions; capability-building, among faculty members, for the development and packaging of interactive learning materials; production of more interactive learning materials, including the videotaping of selected lectures of faculty members for instructional purposes; and, the establishment of interactive learning kiosks/hubs in the libraries and major academic buildings of the university.
